Formula 1 Announces Six Sprint Races for 2024 Season

Upcoming Dates and Host Tracks

The Formula 1 (F1) series has unveiled the six locations that will host Sprint races during the 2024 FIA season. Sprint races, introduced in 2021, provide a shorter, more exciting race format that determines the starting grid for the main Grand Prix event.

Sprint Race Calendar

The six Sprint races for 2024 will take place on the following dates and tracks:
  • Chinese Grand Prix - April 21
  • Miami Grand Prix - May 5
  • Austrian Grand Prix - July 21
  • Belgian Grand Prix - August 25
  • Qatar Grand Prix - October 6
  • São Paulo Grand Prix - November 17

Format and Rules

Each Sprint race will consist of approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles). Points will be awarded to the top eight finishers, with the winner receiving eight points and the second-place finisher receiving seven points. The points will contribute to the overall drivers' and constructors' championships. The starting grid for the Sprint race will be determined by a qualifying session held on Friday. The winner of the Sprint race will start on pole position for the main Grand Prix event on Sunday.

Enhanced Fan Experience

The introduction of Sprint races has been met with mixed reactions from fans. Some argue that it adds excitement and variety to the race weekend, while others prefer the traditional Grand Prix format. Regardless, the Sprint races provide an opportunity for fans to witness an additional racing event and potentially see their favorite drivers rise to the challenge.
